Hello Java enthusiasts! Pittsburgh Java User Group wrapped up its last session for the year on December 7th. We continued to stay virtual as it works best for the organizers and attendees. Find our meetup page and our YouTube channel where we have uploaded all the sessions for our members.

Tip: We have handy playlists for each year on our YouTube channel.

We would like to thank our speakers, attendees, and sponsors who have taken the time to participate in and/or join our Java User Group.

The rest of the blog will summarize the wide variety of sessions we hosted this year.

OpenRewrite: Where the code fixes itself (plus all the dependencies)

We had Olga Kundzich and Sam Synder present to us on OpenRewrite, an open-source, automated refactoring and dependency management technology. They talked us through recipes that would help in migrations such as JUnit 4 to JUnit 5 or Spring Boot upgrades. Check out the video here.

CLOUD-NATIVE DEV TOOLS — BRINGING THE CLOUD BACK TO EARTH

Grace Jensen spoke to us about the different OSS tools and technologies that are out there that developers can use to develop, design and test cloud-native Java applications. This is a great video for beginners as it can be overwhelming to explore these tools on your own.

Use Quarkus Funqy to deploy Java Serverless functions to multiple clouds

Eric Deandrea and Jorge Balderas joined us to talk about Quarkus Funqy to create and deploy a serverless function to multiple cloud providers. This session has some amazing demos. Check out the video here.

Batch Processing in Action

We had Rodrigo Graciano present to us on Spring Batch and its features, backed with a detailed and powerful demo. Check out the video here.

Apache Maven — a peek under the hood

We had Chandra Guntur take us through a deep dive of Maven. The session covers everything from basics to advanced topics and must watch for Java Developers!!

Dataframes, Collections, and Streams

This was our last session for the year and it was a great way to end this year with two amazing speakers Donald Raab and Rustam Mehmandarov. Compare and explore Dataframes, Collections and Streams with lots of code examples.

Enjoy watching these videos, we will be back with some more exciting sessions next year! Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
